Welcome to AP English Lit review!

Hey guys, here's a general overview of some books the AP test tends to favor. If there's a specific book you'd like to see on the site that's not up, let me know. I'll get around to posting example questions, poetry analyses, and sample essays.

Events and Announcements
Updated 4/18/05

If you attended AP Lit tutorials four out of the five days during the last week of intersession, your book project isn't due until Monday, April 25th.

Don't forget that we're going to Metamorphosis on Thursday, April 28th from 6:30 to 10 p.m. There are still a few spots avaliable, so if you're interested, get a check for $14 to Mrs. Bshara or the ASB as soon as possible.

Side note: Mrs. Dautremont's APUSH tutorial for that evening has been pushed back to 4-6 p.m. instead of the normal 5-7 p.m.

Novelists and playwrights have often seen madness with a "discerning Eye." Select a novel or play in which a character's apparent madness or irrational behavior plays an important role. Then write a well-organized essay in which you explain what this delusion or eccentric behavior consists of and how it might be judged reasonable. Explain the significane of the "madness" to the work as a whole.

Many works of literature not readily identified with the mystery or detective story genre nonetheless involve the investigation of a mystery. In these works, the solution to the mystery may be less important than theknowledge gained in the process of its investigation. Choose a novel or play in which one or more of the characters confront a mystery. Then write an essay in which you identify the mystery and explain how the investigation illuminates the meaning of the work as a whole.

Select a novel or play in which a tragic figure functions as an instrument of the suffering of others. Then write an essay in which you explain how the suffering brought upon others by that figure contributes to the tragic vision of the work as a whole.
